Join us in 2009 for the Governor’s Housing Conference, which will be held this year at the Norfolk Marriott Hotel and Conference Center Nov. 18 – 20 in Norfolk, Virginia. The Governor’s Housing Conference is the largest and most comprehensive housing-related conference of the year in Virginia, featuring workshops designed to provide participants with practical knowledge and skills. In addition to a broad range of housing related topics, this year’s event will provide strategies to address the challenges presented by the current economic environment and housing market.

Call for proposals – 2009 Governor’s Housing Conference sessions
The program committee for the Virginia Governor’s Housing Conference is accepting proposals for workshops for the 2009 Governor’s Housing Conference, which will be held Nov. 18 – 20 at the Norfolk Marriott. Proposals are being sought that address a broad range of housing affordability and policy issues such as:
· Housing Affordability in a Challenging Economy;
· Addressing Foreclosure Impacts;
· Optimizing Partnerships Created by Stimulus Funding
· Innovative Funding Options that Support Affordable Housing Development; and more.
Program opportunities include: 4-hour pre-conference workshops to be scheduled on Wednesday; 90-minute conference sessions to be scheduled on Thursday and Friday; and a 90-minute Community Development Bus Tour that will run in both the morning and afternoon on Thursday. The deadline for submission is May 1, 2009. More information on the submission process is available at the links below.

2008 Virginia Housing Awards winners
Each year the Virginia Housing Awards are presented at the Governor’s Housing Conference to celebrate the most successful, innovative and effective efforts to meet Virginia’s diverse housing needs. Awards are presented in the areas of Best Affordable Housing Development; Best Housing Program or Service; Best Housing Organization; Best Housing Preservation/Revitalization Effort; and Best Affordable Housing Energy Conservation Effort.
